Zahara, the daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has taken another step to distance herself from her father’s surname. The 21-year-old has filed documents in a California court requesting that her legal name be changed to Zahara Marley Jolie, officially removing the surname Pitt.

Although the change still depends on the completion of legal proceedings, Zahara has already been using only her mother’s surname in public appearances, according to a report by People magazine.

In 2023, during her induction ceremony into the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, she introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie.” More recently, at her Psychology graduation from Spelman College, she was also identified without the Pitt surname.

The decision makes Zahara another of the former couple’s children to drop the actor’s surname. Her sister Shiloh legally changed her name in 2024, while Vivienne has begun using only Jolie in professional credits. Her brother Maddox has also recently filed a similar request.

Zahara was born in Ethiopia and was adopted by Angelina Jolie in 2005 when she was only a few months old. Brad Pitt finalized the adoption the following year, at which point her surname was changed to Jolie-Pitt.

The change comes years after the turbulent separation of Jolie and Pitt, which was announced in 2016 and officially finalized in 2024. Since then, the actor’s relationship with some of his children has frequently been the subject of media speculation, although the family rarely comments publicly on the matter.
